Fat Cat with attitude

While snooping around one of my fave blogs the other night, I noticed a few cards using this "Fat Cat Fred" character.  Being nosey, I immediately googled him, only to turn up a whole sheet of free digis!  Score!  There's a whole bunch of images and I had to make a card right away using this fun guy.  Go here to get your own.

On a side note - anyone got any tips for colouring areas with lots of fiddly bits, like around the holly?  Looking at it now, I didn't do such a fab job...

Woodland scene

Eeek, isn't this stamp from Crafter's Companion the cutest?  It could almost be a picture of my backyard except the local racoons aren't that cute when they're rampaging through your garbage!
Anyhoo, must keep this brief as I have to start writing Christmas cards, I haven't sent any yet, yikes!  Don't know where my head is this year...

If you've been following my blog for awhile, you may have noted that vintage and I are not the best of friends.  However, it's good to play outside the box every once in a while so I thought I'd play along with the Cat's Pajamas 'vintage' challenge and this is the result.  Not really vintage but hopefully close enough!  Lots of inking helped and some lovely CTMH blue and brown wintery paper - what do you think?

Now I'm off to go play at Splitcoast and see if I can remember my password - it's been awhile!

Crazy Chickens!

Oh my, I'm still working my way through my new Penny Black stamps and this one just cracks me up.  The candles.  The chickens.  The fire extinguisher - ha!  And I found the perfect sentiment to go with it too.  In case you're not psychic the inside reads "the candles cost more than the cake!"

I'm still working on taking good winter photos - I have a light box but I'm just not happy with the colour.  I took my cards to work with me today and photographed them on the windowsill at noon.  My co-workers think I'm nuts but that's par for the course, and although this isn't perfect it's not bad.

Whimsy guest spot hopeful

Eeee - I just found out that Whimsy Stamps is having a guest designer call for their January release, so exciting!  Unfortunately, I didn't have time to whip up a new card before the deadline, so here's one of my fave's from earlier in the year.

I absolutely love the Wee stamps line and would jump at the chance to play with a new release. And of course they have tons of other fabulous stamps too.  Thanks so much for the opportunity, I have my fingers crossed!

I'm back!

Hi all my sweet bloggy friends, I hope you've missed me cause I've missed you!  It's been a whopping 2 weeks since I last posted and I'm feeling a tad guilty about the neglect.  However, I had a lovely visit with my sister and the new baby, Erin - it's not everyday you get to spend time with a newborn.  Especially when you're not hormonal and sleep deprived!

This card is not a total original - I've see a bunch of these beautiful inked cards around so I decided to whip one up for myself.  I'm thinking these may be this year's Christmas cards - simple and elegant.  If you want to see some stunning cards in this style, check out Heather Telford here - her work is just amazing and I stalk her blog all the time!

Sweet baby

Yea, congrats to my sister and my new niece, Erin Elizabeth!  Lucky me, I'm going down to visit them this weekend and see the baby while she's still tiny.  They change so fast when they're little...

So it's pretty obvious who this card is for, and I don't have to worry about her seeing as I unlinked my blog from Facebook.  Really, it's a bit silly to have them linked cause everyone gets to see what cards they're getting!  A very simple card, with a sweet stamp from SU as the focus.

Just warning you, it may be a bit quiet around here in November as things are getting super busy.  Not sure how much crafty time I'm going to get, but I will try!

More Christmas...

Whoop whoop, I think I'm up to a grand total of 3 Christmas cards.  Only 50 days until the big day...gah.  I think a few people may be getting last year's leftovers!

Anyway, this card was a bit of a struggle, the original paper I had picked out just didn't go and the green card on it's own was a little blah.  But then I found this piece of clear packaging (not really sure what's it's from) and embossed it and wow!  I've seen this before but never done it - embossed plastic looks awesome!
I'm afraid I took a few liberties with the sketch from Merry Monday, it was very hard to work with such a loong image!  I hope you can still see the bones of the sketch there...

Party till the cows come home

I've always loved this Elzybells sentiment stamp and I'm glad I managed to get a few before they closed down.  A bonus is that it goes perfectly with my new Penny Black stamp, which I absolutely adore.  I finally found a place in North America that carries all the PB range, so if you're a fan try PB Stamps.  John was even nice enough to un-mount all the stamps I ordered to save on shipping - sweet huh?

I kept this card pretty simple to let my fun image shine - although I think it still needs something, bling maybe?

One last thing, on a candy note - please check out Wickdy's Creations for a great one.  I'm not normally a blog candy person, mainly cause I'm too lazy to post them all, but a gift certificate to Whimsey stamps was hard to pass up.  Fingers crossed!

It's magic...

Ever have an idea about how a card should turn out and then actually have it work?  I'm not always so fortunate, sometimes my inspirations exceed my abilities!  This slider card came about as I was looking through my Cat's Pajamas Stamps and thought that literally having a bunny coming out of the hat would be fun.
The hardest part was finding the template, as there's a bunch of different slider cards out there.  (Sorry, I should have saved the link and now I can't find it again!)  To make this card, you cut 2 slits in your paper and add a loop of paper through them that will slide up and down.  Then you just have to make sure you don't put any sticky behind the slits or it won't work!  (If you look closely, just can see the slits behind the pull tab.)  Pure magic!

Poorly pup

This card was also made last Sunday - gotta love those lazy, rainy weekends.  Unfortunately, the recipient of this one is my Nanny - she had a stroke and is in hospital.  She has made some improvements and is heading for several weeks of rehab so we wanted to pass along our best wishes.
And for some strange reason, I have not used this stamp before.  It may have something to do with the sheer numbers of stamps I have...Funny story, I gave my husband my stamp book to flip through and pick an image for a card he wanted.  After about 10 minutes, he says "Wow, you have a lot of stamps.  How many of these have I paid for?"  Ummm...

Special delivery

Oh, what a gloomy, rainy Sunday it is here in Ottawa - a perfect day for crafting I think!  I finished my 2nd Christmas card of the year (whoo hoo!) and I thought I better get my butt in gear and post it since I have not posted in a week.  I have noticed that with no DT deadlines to make, the call of the horizontal position on the couch has been quite loud and I have not been crafting as much.

This card was for the October Sketch for You to Try - I found it a bit tricky as I couldn't figure out what bits to stick out from behind my image.  After playing around a bit with envelopes, I dug out this Portobello Road postage set that my Mum brought back from England.  The postage stamps and the 'happy mail' sentiment really went well with the Lily of the Valley image, and I think it turned out pretty cute.  Two Christmas cards down, many more to go!

I seem to have missed World Card Making Day yesterday - hubby is away for the long weekend and so for a treat, I took the kid's to Saunder's Farm.  It's a local 'pumpkin patch' type place (that has long since grown beyond the pumpkins!) which I have avoided in the past because it's rather spendy.  It turns out it's well worth the dollars, we spend the entire day there and I had to drag the kids out kicking and screaming.  Wagon rides, haunted barns, tons of mazes, play structures and more.  The best part was the jumping pillows - giant inflated pillows set into the ground.  Most of the parents stood around and watched, but there was a small group (myself included) jumping and laughing hysterically.  Seriously, way too much fun!

My youngest jumping up a storm
However, I did manage to make a card the night before we went - not last night as I passed out soon after the kids did!  This is for the Cat's Pajamas Sketch Challenge - I'm still working my way through my new Cat's PJ's stamps I got a month back.   Love this sheep almost as much as the bunnies, and the sentiment just cracks me up.  Hat head anyone?

First Christmas card

This was supposed to go up last night, but an unexpected power outage derailed my plans.  We suspect someone hit a pole as the phone lines were also down.  It was kind of nice to have an excuse to go to bed early - I needed that!
Luckily, I had finished this card the night before - my first Christmas card of the season!  I paper pieced the image, and then kept the layout simple to showcase it.  I think a little dab of sparkle might brighten it up a bit though - Christmas cards are better with bling!

Free range chicken

You may be wondering about my post title as my card obviously has nothing to do with chickens.  It's in reference to me - I have resigned both my DT spots and I'm now a free range scrapper.  I'm a little sad at leaving such a great bunch of ladies, but I was beginning to get a little squirrelly about the cards I had to make, so it was time for a break.  Not sure what the future holds - for now, the goal is to continue to post 1-2 times a week, although we shall see how that goes!

For today, I found a super fun challenge at CAS-ual Fridays - to be inspired by your blog design/header. Such a neat idea, and this card came together super fast.  I went with a a very literal interpretation - the lovely gradation of colours.  I also pulled out a SU stamp I bought and never used, shame on me as this stamp is so gorgeous!

Fire and flames

It's my last challenge at Fab N Funky and it's a fun one - things that start with F!  I decided to stay away from the more obvious F's (flowers anyone?) and go a different route - a Fire breathing dragon done up in Fall colours.
This cute Your Next Stamp dragon went perfectly with my Simple Stories paper - the s'more the merrier, hee hee!  He does actually have a bit of bling going, it's just hard to see in this pic.

A 40th anniversary

Sorry for the wordless post, I have now corrected that.  Apparently, I need to stop making assumptions about internet access when I travel!  For some reason, although my sister's internet worked perfectly, Mr Blogger would not place nice with Internet Explorer and I couldn't add any text to my post.
Anyway, this is a fun anniversary card for my Mum and Dad's 40th anniversary - yea for them!  This is for Pile It On's Fabric or felt challenge and the cute elephants are from the sponsor, SK Digis.  The grass was a real pain to cut out because it's so detailed, but after a little (ok, a lot!) of cursing, I got a good cut.
FYI - Don't try and put sticky on your felt, it will tear. (yup, that may have accounted for some of the swearing!)

Sunday afternoon

I'm sneaking this post in a rare moment of silence - DH has taken the boys and the dog out for a walk and it's blessedly quiet around here.  Despite the fact that it's a sunny fall day, the Wii has been going non-stop and the constant 'pew pew' noises are driving me nutty.  (those of you with boys who like Star Wars will know what I mean!)  I have turfed them all out though, and I have my fingers crossed it will be a loong walk!

Still struggling a bit with a lack of mojo, but I made myself sit down and play last night, and I quite like this card, so I think I'm back on track!  This set from TSG is so much fun, for Halloween or any other occasion, like a missed birthday.  Seriously, those mummies are adorable!

Fall frenzy

Phew, it was a hot and sunny day here, it's hard to believe it's fall already.  But the leaves are coming down, the geese are flying south and the kids are in school (yea!) so it must be true.  The challenge this week at Fab N Funky is Harvest Festival - something we see lots of round here in the fall.  We always go to one and the boys love it because they get the pay one price bracelet - ride till you puke!

In other news, I got my root canal, yea!  Probably not something you hear everyday, but the constant toothache was really starting to be a drag.  Perhaps the mojo will make a reappearance now...

My oh my, must make this short.  I have pulled something in my hip (hip flexor maybe?) and sitting is decidedly uncomfortable!  The upshot of it is that I haven't really noticed the pain in my tooth the last little bit.  Sigh...
In other news the challenge at Pile It On this week is to use patterned paper - easy peasy right?  I used a new Cat's PJ's stamp and some fun paper from the Echo Park Hello Summer collection.  Cute huh?

Shades of fall

Hi everyone and welcome back to another week at Fab N Funky.  We're thinking fall this week, as in fall colours.  I decided to go with a monochromatic look, all in brown.  Still haven't figured out what sentiment to put on the front, probably a Happy Birthday for my Dad.

Not feeling very chatty today so I will keep this short and sweet.  Have  good week!

Fishy fun

I picked up this cute stamp set while on vacation and while I think it's more a scrapping set (I have soo many beach/water pictures to scrap) I thought I'd try a CAS card with it first.  I used strips of paper as I'm short of colours in the washi tape department, I was aiming for a simple and colourful card.

I finally managed to get some crafty time in today - we've been busy with back to school stuff all weekend and the mojo has temporarily walked off.  It may have to do with the fact that I have to go back to work tomorrow after almost 2 weeks off.  My oldest boy has been throwing hissy fits about returning to school and I feel like joining him.  Wah!

Back to Reality...

Whew, what a crazy couple of weeks!  We spent 7 days at my Mum and Dad's, then drove home and spent one night there and then headed out camping for a few nights.  In a massive fluke we ran into some friends who were camping 2 sites up from us, so we had a great time.  However, all good things must come to an end including my vacation!  We have a few days to recover and get ready for back to school and then reality hits...bleh.  I am looking forward to getting crafty again, I have new stamps and papers and I'm ready to play!

This is one of the things I did on my vacation - I stencilled my sister's room for the soon to be niece or nephew.   I used digi images from Meljen's, printed off the size I wanted and then traced onto plastic.  Cut them out and voila - custom stencils.  Obviously I left off some of the details, but I think they turned out very neat.  Next up is shower invites featuring Mama and baby whale - a girl's work is never done!

PS - No, the clown fish is not a Meljen's image, he was a custom request.  I stretched the pink fish, modified the tail and added stripes - cute huh?

Penguins and polkadots

I must apologize, this post is rather late and I didn't manage to get my card up on the Pile It On blog.  Being on vacation mucks up your schedule for sure, even when you try and plan your posts in advance!
So the challenge at Pile It On this week is the Letter P - anything that starts with P is fair game.  I went with penguins and polka dots, a good combo I think.  Join us over at Pile It On and let's see your P's!

Bunny Bouquet

Playing along over at Dancing in Pajamas again and this week it's a colour challenge.  I think of these colours as 'ice cream' colours - soft and yummy!  Maybe I eat too much ice cream though...
Not sure if I'm going to be able to play along much until September gets rolling.  What with the ongoing toothache, (yes I need a root canal, and no it's not until Sep.18! Arg!) the whole back to school thing (my oldest boy is kicking and screaming all the way) and a last minute camping trip there's not a lot of time for anything else around here!

See you on the other side...

Green growing things

The challenge this week at Fab N Funky is leaves.  Hmm, that one made me think!  I had to do some digging to pull up this leafy stamp set, and the green background paper.  Of course I found the brand new, never used bamboo embossing folder after I finished the card...ah well, I know where it is now!  This cute image is from Bugaboo, our sponsor this week.

Anchors Aweigh...

This has kind of been a dud week for me, I've been trying to be crafty but fighting a nasty toothache which is bringing me down.  I'm almost done the antibiotics and I'm finally starting to feel a bit better - not sure whether to look forward to or dread the visit to the dental surgeon next week.  A root canal may very well be in my future!
So this morning I managed to squeeze out a card - and surprisingly for me, this card only took about 1/2 hour.  I've seen a new challenge blog for 10 minute cards - I don't think I'll be playing there anytime soon!

Very excited as the Cat's Pajamas had a sale and I have new bunny stamps coming my way!  Sorry the colours are a bit washed out - I will try and take another pic tonight when the sun's gone down a bit.

Fairy Time

I'm not really a fairy person, dragons are more my thing.  And I'm not really into super girly images either, having 2 boys.  But I'm really enjoying these Wee Stamps, enough so that I bought another one after I tried my freebies.  This one was a hoot to colour, I took my Copics camping and I had all the parts stamped on little bits of paper, I'm pretty sure my friends had no idea what I was up to!  I think I'm going to take more images camping, colouring under natural light is wonderful.

Image is a Wee stamps freebie, papers are MME, die cut is MFT and darned if I can remember where the lovely canvas tag is from, but I need to find out cause I want more!

Basket of bunny

This week at Dancing in Pajamas, the challenge was a colourful inspiration photo.  But I also wanted to play along with the Catered Crop's All in white challenge.  Hmm...
I decided to do an all white card and just highlight the colourful eggs (and the bunny's nose) for fun.  I forgot how much I love all white cards, I must do more!  They're so crisp and clean, like laundry hanging out to dry.  And now you know I'm nuts, comparing crafting to laundry!

A camping we will go...

A happy Sunday morning to you all!  It's a bit drizzly here, having not rained for the entire month of July and put us into a drought, Nature seems determined to make up for it with endless rain for all of August!  I might actually have to go out and mow the lawn, assuming that it, that it dries up for a bit!
We just came back from a weekend camping and I took my Copics and some images with me.  This is one them, luckily we didn't see any real skunks although we did smell one!

Pearls of wisdom...

It's a pearly, sparkly week at Fab N Funky - we're looking for pearls or rhinestones or even both if you're feeling adventurous!  I stuck with the pearls, I wanted something simple to add to this CAS card.  I love this SU stamp set, it's so pretty, but I'm thinking I should have gone with grey and yellow as there's a bit of a Halloween vibe going on with the orange!

It's a rainy night here, so I'm off too my girlfriends to scrap - gotta love that kind of weather.  Have a good week!

More 3D

I was going to hold off posting this until tomorrow, but we're camping this weekend so tomorrow night will be busy with packing, last minute planning and where the heck did I put that-ing.  Fun and games, really!  So here we are, second post for today, please scroll down for my Fab N Funky post.

More 3D fun, although this one didn't go quite as smooth.  If you look close, you can see a smear of glue on the bunnies paw where I mucked up.  I also had to fudge the sketch a bit, once I started putting the card together, I realized the image was far to big to allow me to put the circle in.  Turned out very fun and colourful though, and again, I'm loving the 3D look.

Anything but a card!

This may possibly be the first time that the theme "Anything but a card" has not sent me screaming for the hills.  Our sponsor at Fab N Funky this week is Flonz Stamps and we got to pick out some stamps from the store to play with.  I picked this great construction themed set and immediately set to work making wrapping paper.

I just random stamped all over plain brown wrap and volia - unique, one of a kind presents!

Geez, if only I could be this creative every time this challenge rolls around!  Anyway, join us at FnF this week with your 'anything but a card' creations, let's see what you can do!

3D fun

Me again, back with another card.  I've been eyeballing some beautiful 3D creations around the web lately, and finally found Mariska's blog and her tutorials.  Make sure you check out her blog, as her work is stunning.  Mine is nowhere near as good, but I'm pretty happy with my first attempt!

Close up of the 3D effect
It does take some time to figure out what layer goes where and to plan everything out and colour it, but the results are so worth it.  I will definitely be doing this again!  I kept the rest of the card very simple to showcase the image, and I just love this card!

Hi all, another gorgeous sunny day here.  Just having a lazy Sunday, the little guy is off to a birthday party, so that gives us lots of time to sit down and work out a budget.  Yikes, just what I wanted to do this weekend!  Seriously though, with the dog's surgery and an emergency plumbing call, we're pretty skint and knowing where are money is going will help a lot.  Although DH doesn't really need to know how much I've spent on stamps....oh, I'm in trouble!

Beary fun

My youngest is heading to a birthday party for his buddy this weekend, so I whipped up a quick 'boy' birthday card.  This was originally supposed to be a bit more CAS, I think with the embossing and the chevrons, it turned out a bit busy.  Still fun though and I love this cute Bo Bunny paper, so bright and boyish!

NO stamps!

The challenge this week at Fab N Funky is NO stamping.  Um, hello, whose idea was this challenge anyway?  No stamping, not even a bit?  Sigh...

It started out so well, I was super inspired to use up some of the 'stuff' in my stash.  Maybe I could make a whole bunch of cards and clean things out.  Then I started working and realized something.  Maybe there's a reason that some of this stuff has been in my stash forever unused.  Long story short, this is the third card and the first and only one I'm happy with.  One good thing?  I've been inspired to go through my stash and clean out a bit...I'm sure the boys will love a few cheesy stickers right?

Well, it's finally raining here, although it's nowhere near enough to end the drought.  And I'm finally getting this image onto a card!  I stamped this ages ago, just after I got them and it's been patiently waiting for me ever since.  I love, love, love these little mice from Lily of the Valley, they just crack me up.

I used some fun MME paper, added a big bow and this celebrate sentiment I got at a retired SU sale.  The photo is a tad washed out due to the very early morning light (as in 6:30am on my way out the door to work early), it's actually a bit brighter than this.

Anyway I'm off to walk on the grass before it dries up and gets crispy again - the rain's already finished and the sun's come out.  Have a good week!

Flying High

Geez, I haven't been around in over a week and now I'm back 2 days in a row!  My sitter is off this week, which means I'm off this week - yea!  We're having a really relaxing couple of days, my dog just had surgery to remove a tumour from her neck (she looks a bit like Frankenstein) so we're home keeping an eye on her.  I think we'll head down to the beach this afternoon (sans dog, sand and surgery do NOT mix!) the hardest decision I want to make today is what to drink!

This card is for last week's TCP challenge - teal, red and kraft.  I have this Cosmo Cricket paper pad that I wasn't so sure about, but it fit the colours perfectly.  I think it turned out pretty good, especially the banner.
Love my bunnies!

DIY flowers

Morning all, I'm back!  I've been out of touch for a bit, packing for a 4 day camping trip, then camping, then recovering from it.  (mountains of laundry, yikes)  I'm still not feeling very crafty, I think because it's just so darn hot here.  If you look closely at my card, the yellow stuff in the background is my lawn.  Or what used to be my lawn...

Anyway, the challenge at Fab N Funky this week is make your own flowers.  Feeling not very creative, I just made some simple lollipop style flowers out of die cut circles.  The cute birdie is from our sponsor, Doodle Pantry.

Summertime BBQ

Mmmm, BBQ.  Great food but a tricky theme seeing as I didn't have any BBQ type stamps from One Crazy Stamper.  Improvisation can be fun though, which is how I ended up making a Canada Day themed invitation using this cute High Hopes stamp.  This is one I had to buy as soon as I saw it - there's not a lot of great Canadian stuff out there!

Hope you'll join us over at the One Crazy stamper blog for the July challenge, it's actually BBQ/food so not as tricky as I initially thought!

Stars and Stripes

Pardon me for a bit of overuse, but this is the third card I've made in the last few days with the MFT star die.  Can't quite figure out how i made stars before as I don't have any punches...anyhoo, very happy to be getting my money's worth out of this one!

The reason for the stars is the challenge at Fab n Funky this week - Stars and Stripes.  Easy peasy, non?  I used this Greek inspired image from Tickled Pink - isn't she fierce?
On a side note, I can't believe how green my backyard looks in this picture.  In reality, it's been so dry that my 'grass' is crunchy and my flowers have all wilted.  I like summer and all, but wow is it hot here.

Guest DT spot

Yea me, I get to be a guest DT at one of my fave stores, One Crazy Stamper!  I'm a little slow putting this up, I was waiting for the post to go up on the One Crazy Stamper blog and somehow the whole day just got away on me!

Anyhoo, the challenge this month is BBQ/food.  I dug through all my stamps and picked this cute Meljen's image.  I also used my Copics and This and That Graceful paper from Echo park.  Fun! Can't wait to do some shopping, I just have to pay off my current purchases first!
